The Bike Lane wins 2008 CSC Invitational Master’s 35+ Criterium

Congrats Nima!

The CSC Invitational is a held on a tight 1km 5 corner criterium course in downtown Clarendon, VA.  The Master’s race was a 40 lap race with 65 riders competing for a $1500 prize list.  The race started right from the gun with MVC/Blue Wheel rider Roger Friend attacking from the starting line.  Bike Lane rider Pedro Hijar led the chase and caught the lone rider within three laps.  Upon catching Friend Immediate Mortgage/Artemis rider Ramon Benitez and Bike Lane rider Mark Warno counter attacked and created an eight man break group including Evolution Cycling strong man George Opria, Immediate Mortgage/Artemis sprinter “Super” Dave Osborne and The Bike Lane sprinter Nima Ebrahimnajad.  The break away group continued to gain time on the field as George and Ramon battled for 6 primes and Mark made several counter attacks, while Dave and Nima held on to the group awaiting the final sprint.  Eventually the break away group lapped the remaining field and raced on through.  George attacked hard going into the final lap in attempt to rid himself from the two sprinters.  But his effort was not enough to create separation.  Nima surprised the charging break by attacking early and sprinting from the third corner.  Dave was forced to chase, but Nima powered through the remaining two corners and down the finishing stretch to win the event by more than a bike length.  Mark was able to secure 5th place and Bike Lane Ride Will Rowlette was able to finish up in the field with a 26th place finish.
