The Bike Lane’s Favorite Mountain Bike Rides:

Joe’s Regular Monday Evening Wakefield  MTB ride

What: The Bike Lane/MORE Monday night ride at Wakefield
When: Monday nights at 6:30pm (on the trail by 6:45)
Where: Audrey Moore Rec Center parking lot by the recycling bins

Pace: Moderate/Fast
Difficulty: Intermediate
Contact: JoeP (penano@gmail.com)
Location: Wakefield Park, VA
This is a moderate to fast-paced night ride at Wakefield Park in Annandale, Virginia, adjacent to the intersection of Braddock Road and the Capitol Beltway. Riders should meet at 6:30 and be ready to ride at 6:45.

Pace: This ride, part of a regular series of night rides organized by The Bike Lane and MORE, is geared toward intermediate to advanced riders. There are usually not enough riders on this ride to form groups with different paces. Riders looking for a casual, beginner-friendly ride should consider the Tuesday or Thursday night rides first.

Location: The ride starts near the Wakefield Park recycling bins, located in the parking lot of the Audrey Moore Recreation Center. Please park near the large green recycle bins.

Terrain: Wakefield is generally considred easier to intermediate by most riders. There are a few small stream crossings and some log obstacles. Riders should use good judgment and weigh the difficulty of an obstacle against possible post-ride trash-talk and humiliation for not attempting it. The ride will typically consist of a mix of singletrack, fireroads, and other trail sections in the park. There are some climbs that some people may find challenging, but not you, otherwise you wouldn’t even be on this ride right?

All riders joining this ride will need to sign the standard MORE waiver form.

Riders need to have good quality bicycle lights. Bikes should be in good working order, and riders should have basic equipment such as a spare tube, water, and trail food. There is no required dress code other than a helmet, and covering for other “sensitive areas” (yow!).

Weather: To protect and maintain the trails, the ride will be canceled if weather conditions warrant. Information on closures will be posted here and/or in the forum. Volunteers have put a lot of ’sweat equity’ into maximizing the trails in Wakefield. Let’s not ruin them by riding when it’s muddy, eh?
